869 DAYS LEFT MEMORABLE MEALS

 - Italy - the ile of Capri CA-pri they said over and over correcting.  Walk up and up and up through nothingness and vineyards and fields towards the summit where rest the remains of some god king statue and on the way, finding that place in the middle of nowhere, the only customers, the proprietor eager to cook, every bit of the meal from scratch, one course after another

- the New year's day meals in France particilarly in Orleans

- the double gigantic Schnitzel in Berlin waiting for Karen, in Charlottenburg, shocked and amazed by the size and cheap price

- the first time eating Argentine parillada and each time therafter, particularly in Argentina

- Riodizio in NYC and then in London the red and green cards, food non stop carved out in front of you never knowing when to say stop red light too much

- sausages and brown bread at streetside stands in Prague

- the thanksgiving meal you and Kathleen prepared for your mother all from scratch using recipes from Kathleen's cooking magazines

- most every time eating at (other than the first time, drunk, not knowing how much you would like the wood burning stove cooking) at Robert et Louise in Paris and how it was the first date with Kattia and how you two moved by coincidence, just around the corner from it.

- the horrific experience of tripe in Porto with Reinier and Shari, not eating disgusted and instead just drinking more profuciously.  

- Indian meal first one in Birmingham with Shari, too spicy too hot not enough beers and then shitting and puking up all night in the hotel (actually not a hotel but a sort of flop house for transient workers called and BnB somehow.

- with Claudia maybe fondue for the first time, in Interlacken

- Not the ceremony of meals for certain occasions rather the quality of the food itself

Ok well in the years of 7th and 8th grade, yes, the transition happened from city punk to suburban lost boy...what sticks out was an event of a sort of how to say this, group attack on a female in a school swimming pool. Very serious business. Very serious business. I had cut classes and left school when each person involved was summoned which was very poor timing because of course, with you mysteriously missing, all the others simply blamed me. What caused the attack, what provoked it what anything, beyond my comprehension and I should have gotten therapy of some kind after that to deal with it. Christ that was many decades ago can you imagine what would have happened nowadays? I'd have been imprisoned. Not proud of it does not speak to the horror of what happened. The fact that I cannot remember it is bad enough but the second fact that I was not there to defend myself until it was too late (I think it had been on a Friday and I left for Toronto for the weekend with my fa...

random convo with Claudia to bring back the past

  Onions I used to hate onions Claudia. I hated them growing up and my mother always made horrible shit food with onions in them and we would have a test of wills. She would say you cannot leave the table until you finish and I would just shut down and say fine I will sit here until my bones turn to dust. all for onions. then when I was freshman at uni i joined a frat (not jerk jock frat but cool guy frat) and part of the initiation was to eat a feckin onion whole like an apple so after my youth trauma you can imagine how bad that was but i managed to do it anyway...nowadays thanks to years of smoking killing my taste buds and learning that onions subtle in sauce can be ok, I see that they are edible and that I can have them in sauces now and red onions not so bad. *** mine was sort of by accident I think although I provoked it maybe with photos. something humiliating happened to me once; i was like (sorry for the graphic nature but it is needed for the story) humping what I ...

CITIES Geographical exploration with Claudia (First Paris experiences plus more)

 Well Paris is nearly the centre of my existence.  Not only was it the first European capital but it is where I live now.  Iti s where I spent many many nights drunk.  It is where I have sang, read, oozed.  I met Kattia here.  I have lived with Kattia here together for more than 10 years.  I met Iulia here, the woman I went to dinner with the other night, she who actually reads my book. I met Inga here, the Latvian writer who I spent a summer with a few years ago and who I am visiting in less than a week in Riga.  I have spent many white nights here, have had infinite orgasms, countless museus and exihbitions.  I have probably walked at least 10 000 km here.  Is that humanly possible?  I have had picnics on the Seine.  I have imagined lives from the 70s.  I have imagined the history leaking out of every street and building here, thought about the people who were born and who died here who I will never know or know of....
